2008 Workshops by artist/instructor

Mary Guntzviller

June 23, 24 & 25: Mackinac Island;
Hosted by the Murray Hotel on Mackinac Island

“No Fear Factor”  Watercolor Workshop, Plein-air
                            Students can contact instructor directly at mary@guntzviller.com
Students are responsible for expenses for their room & food.

Through example, specific directions of brush manipulation, color explanation and composition, Mary shows the student how to answer these questions about the day's subject.  Her sense of humor puts the students at ease and generates an excellent atmosphere to experiment and create.  Because Mary's style ranges from illustrative realism to extreme abstract, she is able to suggest various alternatives, enabling the person to select the way to convey his or her individual artistic style.

July 28, 29 & 30: Glen Arbor Art Assoc
at Thoreson Farms

“No Fear Factor” – Emerging Figure

How do I start” or What’s next?” are both common stumbling blocks, especially with the figure.  Through example, demonstration and dialogue, Mary shows the student how to answer these questions while maintaining the student’s individual style.  Mary walks the beginning student through the process of first capturing the figure from life on paper, then moving them on to the medium of their choice.  For intermediate students, Mary helps them move their goals whether it’s towards realism or abstraction.  Bring humor.
